Waiting for your child to see a specialist?

As a mum of three, I am familiar with the frustration of being on waiting lists for appointments with paediatric specialists.

One of my children had gut issues from a very young age and she frequently suffered from stomach pains, cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea. She was underweight and ended up losing even more weight, as well as developing eczema on her face and body.

Our GP ordered some blood tests which showed low iron and she referred us to a paediatric gastroenterologist but there was a long wait for an appointment. I was a teacher at the time so I wasn’t really sure where to start but we ended up working with a nutritionist to do an elimination diet and quickly identified the foods she had a problem with (artificial colours, flavours, preservatives and foods high in salicylates). At the same time, she started on an iron supplement and we worked on healing her gut with probiotics and other gut-supporting nutrients.

Within three months, her gut and skin symptoms had resolved, she had gained weight and she was much happier!

I am passionate about helping children to heal and thrive and my daughter’s story is one of the reasons I changed careers and decided to become a nutritionist.

If your child is suffering with gut issues, skin conditions or food intolerances and you are on a waiting list to see a specialist, why not consider seeking help from a nutritionist while you wait?

I would love to help your child nourish to thrive! :)
